Elements of the Curricular |
|
Group Time
(Teacher Directed Activities):
Daily group times provide the opportunity for your child to
learn in a large group setting. Group lessons include stories,
music, gross motor activities, language experiences, and
discussion of the current week of study. The child is
encouraged to listen and express themselves verbally.
Discussion also helps to promote inductive and deductive
reasoning. The development of visual and auditory memory is
also promoted.
Enrichment Program:
Computer training, foreign language, music and movement,
sign language, cooking, growing plants, nature walks, and
having visitors come to the center to share information about
the unit studies etc. will be available. Infants are taught in
baby sign language which is an extension of the curriculum.
These help children to communicate before they learn to talk.
Water Activities:
Throughout the year, children will engage in water play.
During the summer months children have opportunities to
participate in "splash days." Children cool off outside by
running through sprinklers and water hoses during splash day.
Field Trips:
Children in the older classes participate in field trips
away from the center. These excursions provide the opportunity
for extended learning and experience in the local community.
Parents sign permission forms for each trip and are invited to
participate. Adult to child ratios are maintained and all
children wear seat belts when being transported. Parents
volunteer to drive our field trips and emergency information
accompanies the classes. There is always a CPR and first aid
trained staff person present. Children are supervised closely
at all times. Places to visit on field trip: the zoo, bakery,
dairy, television station, library, children’s theater, farm,
nursery, pet shop, park, supermarket, fire station, post
office, police station, ice cream store, etc
