Enrollment Procedure & Requirements

Shining Stars Academy welcomes families of any race, color, sex, religion, nationality, creed, sexual orientation, marital status, and age. We do not discriminate in any way within the administration of our educational policies, enrollment policies, financial plan or any other school-administered program.

When someone shows interest in our facility, we encourage them to visit our web site for more detailed information. Parents may then schedule a tour. Children are always welcome. The parent (s) are asked to complete a visitor form to help us keep track of your specific needs. Visitors are given a handbook, classroom orientation and a registration packet when they tour.

In order to fill an opening or secure a slot you must complete the registration forms including the contract, pay one week tuition plus a registration fee. Registration fee is NON-REFUNDABLE. Once payment is made, placement for your child is reserved. Parents or Guardians who take an active roll in the child's up bringing are required to participate in a verbal orientation with the director before your child's first day of school. This includes meeting the staff of Shining Stars Academy and visiting the child's classroom.

Parents are required to complete new registration forms and turn them in along with a $90.00 registration fee (non refundable). A newly updated parent handbook will be provided for parents at that time.

The following documents are required by the state of North Carolina and need to be completed prior to placement:

  • Registration forms signed by parent or guardian.
  • Each child should have a physical exam within one month after admission. A copy of the exam, dated not more than one year prior to start date, must be on file in the school office. An annual physical examination is required thereafter until the age of five. All children must have the entire required enrollment forms turned in to our office prior to acceptance into our program. Forms and information must be kept up-to-date to continue in the program.
  • We must have updated and complete records of all required immunizations on file.
  • Client using the DSHS subsidy program must provide us with a current Award Letter and voucher form.
  • It is very important that we have up-to-date emergency information and phone numbers where we may reach you in an emergency. (Please advise the office of any changes as soon as possible.)
  • It is vital that you inform us of the individual (s) authorized to pick up your child. You must provide the name of several local contacts, which can pick up and care for your child in case of emergency, lateness or illness. This is for your child's protection. We cannot release your child to anyone who is not listed on your form unless prior arrangements have been made. Our caregivers and staff will ask for identification when the identity of the adult is not known.
  • Written consent for child to receive medical treatment.
  • Signed policies and procedures agreement.
  • A signed fee and payment plan (Parent/Provider Contract) with a copy to parent.
  • A signed consent for a child to go on any trip off the premises.
  • A signed agreement for the childcare provider to provide transportation.

Once all the forms in the enrollment package are completed and returned in person or through the mail to Shining Stars Academy the admissible children are able to begin their attendance to the Academy.

Enrollment Policy

Shining Stars Academy Inc. is a Childcare Development Center offering a full time and part time transitional kindergarten and before & after school extended care program for children age 6 weeks through 10 years of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students in the program. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies or admission policies.

Open Door Policy

Families are appreciated and have an open invitation to visit the center.  We encourage parent to drop by just to say “hi” during their break, or to join their child for lunch, or perhaps to come by and kiss a scraped knee.  We encourage families to visit on their day off to “see” what their child does throughout the day.

Keeping an open line of communication between the center and families insures that the best interests of the children are served, both at home and at the center.  All parents are encouraged to visit, telephone, and send notes whenever they deem necessary.

An open door policy for families, and staff, and the community to visit at anytime will be maintained.  If a parent needs to discuss a problem or needs more detailed conversation, we ask that a conference time be setup with the child’s caregiver or Director.  This will prevent staff from leaving children unattended.

Babysitting Policy

If a family asks an employee to baby sit personally for the family Shining Stars Academy Child Development is not responsible or liable for any child/children once the child/children are under the care of the employee.

Birthday Policy

Birthdays are celebrated a little differently in each classroom. Families can check with the classroom teacher regarding birthday celebrations in their room.  Families who wish to provide a small, special snack time treat may do so, but must make advanced arrangements with the classroom teacher. These treats can not be homemade.  Shining Stars Academy Child Development will discourage families from distributing birthday invitations to private birthday parties via the school unless the entire class is invited.  Many children’s (and families’) feelings may be hurt because a child was not invited to a particular party.  The staff of Shining Stars Academy Child Development will ask families to be sensitive to the feelings of others regarding parties and invitations.  The staff of Shining Stars Academy Child Development will also be aware of families’ who may not celebrate birthdays.  Arrangements will be made by the teacher to accommodate the needs of these families.
